If you were to organize human knowledge and thinking in some sort of cohesive way, how would you go about it? During the 1980's, the framers of the AU General Education Program envisioned these five curricular areas.

The University reviewed the program during AY's 2000-2002 and found the areas still valid even as dozens of courses were retired, modified, or brought into the program for the first time.
